Cheryl has been a leader in the field of talent development for talent development and career strategy for 20 years. Her combined experience as an executive overseeing talent management and operations strategy in a complex organizational structure, and as an executive and career coach to business leaders across industries and professions gives her a rich and diverse background in facilitating the success of others.
As Vice President/Corporate Officer of Career & Talent Management for Education Management Corporation (EDMC), a leading provider of private post-secondary education, Cheryl provided leadership and strategic vision to a 400-member multi-location team in a dynamic, fast-changing environment. Talent management initiatives developed under Cheryl’s leadership fostered a culture of collaboration, engagement and innovation, and positioned her organization as a leader in employee retention and building a talent pipeline. Smart recruiting strategies combined with a culture of employee engagement led her team to consistently exceed operational goals.
Cheryl was also the Director of Career Management at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler, and Assistant Director at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, where she coached thousands of MBA students on successful career planning and job search strategies. Her business development strategy significantly increased the pool of MBA recruiting companies, and Business Week’s ranking by Kenan-Flagler recruiters improved from 16th to 11th in one cycle.
As an executive coach to leaders and teams, Cheryl is skilled at quickly getting to the heart of an issue and helping her clients find clarity on what’s important to them. Defining priorities and setting goals is done holistically to bring balance and eliminate conflict. Cheryl’s customized approach with each client to help them reconnect with their core strengths, intuition, wisdom and power accelerates the pace at which clients reach their goals. Coaching engagements address many topics, and often focus on delegation and staff development; prioritization; time management; gaining influence and value; positive transformation; productive communication and relationships; and aligning internal compass with professional and personal objectives.
In addition to her private clients, Cheryl is a coach to leaders in the Weekend, Evening and Global Executive MBA programs at Kenan-Flagler Business School, and in Executive Development’s custom programs.
Cheryl received her Master’s in Business Administration at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill in 1998, and is a Certified Professional Coach. She is certified in numerous individual, team and 360 assessment tools including Myers-Briggs, DiSC, Caliper, OAD, StrengthsFinder, Energy Leadership and the Center for Creative Leadership’s Benchmarks.
